U.S citizen, but not living in U.S

I have "residency" in the U.S for tax and voting purposes as a U.S citizen, but I am not currently living in the U.S. Since I am required to file taxes for the U.S, assuming the residency requirement is to declare winning, can I participate?

    Hi Ziva,
Great question. I've forwarded this on to the legal team to make sure this is OK and I will follow up here when I get an answer.
    Thank you,

    Hi Ziva,
In terms of eligibility, residency (where you are currently legally residing) matters more than citizenship. If the winner still has residency in the U.S. but is temporarily abroad they can still participate.
    Thank you,

    Dear Michelle,

I would like to double confirm my status of this competition.

    Hello,

To be eligible, participants will need to be legal residents of the fifty United States (including the District of Columbia), and 18 years of age or older. If you are a resident of the U.S., but temporarily abroad you can still participate.

Thank you and best of luck!

Hi there, great question. While you are permitted to join the hackathon, by registering and learning from the resources, the rules state that "All Eligible Makers" are eligible to win the prizes. In this case, an Eligible Maker is defined as "Individuals who are legal residents of the 50 United States (including the District of Columbia), and are 18 years of age or older." I'm sorry you're ineligible this time around, but we do hope to see you for a different hackathon in the future!
